House with a cross-shaped floor

A house on a hill in Sendai.

The aim was to create an intimate relationship with the garden by creating a planar shape that runs in a crisscross pattern across the site. The garden is divided into four functional gardens: a bright and spacious garden with a field for children to run around in, a quiet garden to be viewed from the bathroom and bedroom, a garden that decorates the facade, and a parking space. A dirt floor runs through the first floor, softly connecting the air of the pleasant park trees behind the entrance to the air of the garden. Different light pours into the dirt floor from the four gardens and skylights, changing the color of the space throughout the day.

There is an open ceiling above the dirt floor, revealing the attic bedrooms, which have private windows offering exclusive views of the hilltop.
