Fuji's foot garden

The site is located in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture, and on a clear day, Mt. Fuji stands out behind the houses. The building was required to function as a rest area and office for the workers of the crane factory.

We wanted to create a place where the craftsmen could relax their minds and bodies for a moment, letting in light while being distanced from the cluttered surrounding factory environment and reconnecting with the air of Mt. Fuji.

The garden is surrounded by three-dimensional curved FRP panels that resemble the drape of a skirt, and the panels are perforated with patterns made from lava retrieved from a factory dump.

When countless particles of light falling from the lava bubbles fill the space, this place once again becomes part of the foothills of Mt. Fuji.
